Performansçı, dansçı ve çiçeği burnunda müzisyen Selim ile, aslında planımıza hiç uymayan ama konuştukça açılan, kendine yeni bir yön belirleyen bir sohbet yaptık. We had a conversation with Selim, a performer, dancer, and budding musician, which didn't quite fit our plan but unfolded as we talked, charting a new course for itself. Being a performer is about becoming someone, and becoming someone requires effort… The time before and after the performance, the rehearsal space, and the moment in front of the audience—these two experiences embrace two vastly different feelings. Trial and error, error and trial, more trial and… Trial. And now, we're close to becoming someone…
#30 Gözde Sivişoglu, Caz Ağı Derneği'ni anlatıyor
Caz Ağı Derneği, Türkiye’de caz ve doğaçlama müzik alanında bir topluluk kurma isteğiyle yoluna başlamış ve geçtiğimiz beş senedir bu amaçla çalışmalarını yürütmüştü. Uzun süredir konuştuğumuz sektörün gençleşmesine dair en güncel örneklerden biri olan Caz Ağı Derneği’nin yönetim kurulu değişimini ve güncel caz sahnesinde topluluk olmak üzerine konuştuk sevgili Gözde ile.
The Jazz Network Association started its journey with the desire to create a community in the field of jazz and improvisational music in Turkey, and has been working towards this goal for the past five years. We talked with Gözde about the change in the board of directors of the Jazz Network Association, one of the most recent examples of the sector's rejuvenation that we've been discussing for a long time, and about what it means to be a community in the contemporary jazz scene.

Defne, a budding tourist guide, is motivated by a deep connection to Istanbul's disappearing vineyards and wine culture. We discuss how guides, as custodians of local history, should break free from the constraints of tourism and forge their own paths, thus preserving their creativity. Tourism, driven by profit and consumerism, is no longer so intertwined with culture… until we change that!
#31 Mesrure Melis Bilgin Koen’in gözünden performans sanatları yönetimi üzerine
İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi Sahne ve Gösteri Sanatları bölümünün Doktora Öğretim Görevlisi Melis, bölümün tarihini ve kültür sanat ekosisteminde üstlendiği rolü anlatıyor. Neredeyse tamamen alaylı olmak üzerinden ilerleyen kültür-sanat endüstrisi, kendine akademik bir yol arayan veya tam anlamıyla eğitim almak isteyen insanlara yeni bir yol açan Sahne ve Gösteri Sanatları bölümünün güncel hayatta gençleşen bir kurum olarak varlığını sürdürmesini konuştuk.
Melis, a PhD lecturer in the Department of Performing Arts at Istanbul Bilgi University, discusses the history of the department and its role in the arts and culture ecosystem. We talked about how the Performing Arts department, which opens a new path for those seeking an academic career or a full education in a culture and arts industry that relies almost entirely on self-taught talent, continues to exist as a rejuvenated institution in contemporary life.

Tek başına araba sürmek gibi düşündürten tek başına program yapma fikri, birçok kişi tarafından önerildikten sonra sezonun son programı olarak kendimi anlatmaya karar verdim. Ancak bu kadar ben merkezli olmak can sıkıcıydı, o yüzden son yıllarda yayınlanan önemli raporlara dair verileri de beraberimde getirdim ve birkaç yere dikkat çektim. Mesela, kültür sanatı en fazla tüketen yaş grubu 18-24 olmasına rağmen, hiçbir raporda en fazla fikri alınan onlar grup değil… Olsun :(
The idea of doing a solo program, which feels like driving a car alone, was suggested by many people, so I decided to present myself as the last program of the season. However, being so self-centered was annoying, so I brought along data from important reports published in recent years and pointed out a few things. For example, although the 18-24 age group consumes the most culture and arts, they are not the group whose opinions are most sought in any report… Oh well 🙁

CreativeMornings Istanbul was founded in New York in 2008 with the idea of bringing creative people together in a morning program. Since 2015, the Istanbul branch has been organized, and our dear Emre, as the host of the Istanbul community, has been witnessing this adventure for almost a decade. Dozens of people who don't know each other but want to meet at a creative table come together on the last Friday of every month, inspiring each other with their personal stories. #19 Denizhan Çay, İstanbul Fringe Festival’i ve performans sanatlarını anlatıyor
Yürütücü Direktor Denizhan, bu sene 8. yaşına girerek ilkokula başlama çağına ulaşan İstanbul Fringe Festival’in genç sanatçılar ve izleyicilerle kurduğu katılımcı yaklaşımı anlattı. Birçok festivalin katılımcı olduğunu iddia ettiği bir sektörde, gerçekten izleyicisiyle ve sanatçılarıyla sürdürülebilir bir ilişki kuran İstanbul Fringe, sadece iyi bir örnek olmakla kalmıyor, aynı zamanda sanat dünyasında öteki veya Fringe anlamına da gelen “saçak”larda kalan performans sanatına ve sanatçılarına gerçekçi bir alan açıyor. Gönüllülük ilişkilerinin festival komitesine dönüştüğü Fringe, her anlamda örnek alınması gereken bir festival. Bu sene, 19-26 Eylül’de sahnede izleyin!
Executive Director Denizhan discussed the participatory approach that the Istanbul Fringe Festival, celebrating its 8th anniversary this year, has established with young artists and audiences. In a sector where many festivals claim to be participatory, Istanbul Fringe, by truly building a sustainable relationship with its audience and artists, not only serves as a good example but also creates a realistic space for performance art and artists who remain on the fringes, or "fringe," in the art world. Fringe, where volunteer relationships have transformed into a festival committee, is a festival to be emulated in every sense. See it on stage this year, September 19-26!

Sevgili dostum ve müzisyen Ahmet Alan, Van’da başlayan ve İstanbul’a uzanan yolculuğunu anlatıyor. Nota bilmeden girilen sınavlar, bir gecede Türk Marşı… Sonuçta genç bir müzisyen olan Ahmet, grupları adına kayıt almak, albüm yayınlamak ve kendi müziğini yurtdışına çıkartmanın yollarını arıyor. Biraz gülüyoruz biraz da Ahmet masada ritim tutarak şovunu yapıyor…
My dear friend and musician Ahmet Alan recounts his journey, which began in Van and extended to Istanbul. Exams taken without knowing the notes, the Turkish March in one night… After all, Ahmet, a young musician, is looking for ways to record for his bands, release albums, and export his own music. We laugh a little, and Ahmet puts on a show by tapping the rhythm on the table.
#20 Naz Yıldırım’ın eşliğinde Girlstothefront ve topluluklar üzerine
Müzik fotoğrafçıları tarafından yakın zamanda kurulan Ankara merkezli topluluk Girlstothefront, tam da adını anlatır biçimde kadınların ve queer kadınların kendilerini öne çıkartmalarını hedefliyor. Müzik sektörünün bel kemiği olan ataerk düzenden bunalmış genç sektör üyeleri, yaptıkları işleri ve vizyonlarını daha fazla kişiye ulaştırabilmek için bir topluluk kurmaya karar vermişler ve böylece alternatif bir var olma yolunu sorgulamaya başlamışlar. Ekip Ankara’da olsa da, İstanbul ve diğer şehirlerle bağları kurulmaya başlamış bile. Ekibin İstanbul’a taşınan üyesi Naz ise, bu programda kadınların oluşturduğu bir toplulukta var olmak üzerine konuşuyor.
Girlstothefront, a recently formed Ankara-based collective of music photographers, aims to empower women and queer women, true to its name. Frustrated by the patriarchal structure that forms the backbone of the music industry, these young professionals decided to create a community to reach a wider audience with their work and vision, thus beginning to explore alternative ways of existing. While the team is based in Ankara, they've already established connections with Istanbul and other cities. Naz, a member of the team who moved to Istanbul, speaks on this program about what it's like to be part of an all-female community.

Sevgili prodüksiyon çalışanı Neşe Deniz Demirdöven ile moda, tiyatro, konser ve festival organizasyonlarında sahne arkasında çalışmanın gerçeklerini konuştuk. Asla bitmeyen mesailer, emek sömürüsü ve erkeklerin asla bitmeyen ego savaşı altında ezilen genç kadınlar, tabii ki prodüksiyon yapabiliyorlar! Yine de bir sendikalaşma, çalışanların korunması ve deneyim aktarımı günümüzün en önemli problemi olarak kalmaya devam ediyor… Biz değiştirene dek!
We spoke with beloved production worker Neşe Deniz Demirdöven about the realities of working behind the scenes in fashion, theater, concert, and festival organizations. Young women, crushed by never-ending overtime, labor exploitation, and men's never-ending ego battles, can, of course, produce! Yet, unionization, worker protection, and the transfer of experience remain the most pressing issues of our time… Until we change!
#21 Hatice Arıcı’nın etrafında şekillenen müzik evreni
Aramıza yeni katılan performans sanatları ve kültür merkezi Paribu Art’ın Müzik Programlama Yöneticisi olan Hatice Arıcı, aynı zamanda bağımsız bir plak şirketi olan HEXE’de de aktif roller üstleniyor. Sahnelerde mikrofon önünde başlayan kariyeri ise çok farklı dallara uzanıyor. Böylece geçtiğimiz yıllarda sektörde değişen müzisyen ve kurum, izleyici ve sahne ilişkilerini masaya yatırdığımızda söyleyecek çok şeyi oluyor; bugünün en büyük sıkıntılarını ve çözüm yollarını konuşuyoruz. Bağımsız müzisyenlerin kendilerine yeterli alanı bulamıyor olması, farklı sahneleme biçimlerinin ortaya çıkmasına yol açıyor. Gönüllülük üzerinden çarkı dönen müzik endüstrisi gerçekten gönüllülere verecek yevmiye bulamıyor mu? Hatice Arıcı, Music Programming Executive of Paribu Art, a newly joined performing arts and culture center, also plays active roles in HEXE, an independent record label. Her career, which began in front of the microphone on stage, has branched out into many different fields. Therefore, she has much to say as we discuss the changing relationships between musicians and institutions, audiences and stages in the industry over the past few years; we talk about today's biggest problems and their solutions. The inability of independent musicians to find sufficient space for themselves leads to the emergence of different staging methods. Is the music industry, which runs on volunteerism, really unable to find daily wages for volunteers? And what about professionals who cling to their positions or are forced to learn through experience due to a lack of training opportunities, and how they build a future for themselves? Ressam ve fotoğrafçı Gökçe, Berlin’e taşındığı son iki seneyi anlattı. Türkiye’den göç eden sanatçıların buhranları ve Berlin’deki bütçe kesintileri sonucunda gittikçe daralan sanat endüstrisi aynı zamanda kendi şehri olan İstanbul’da da hissediliyor. Birkaç kişinin fırçasına emanet olan yarışmalar, tekelleşen galeriler ve bir türlü kendine yer bulamayan genç sanatçılar… Yine de bir öğretmen, bir onaylanan vize, çekmeceden çıkan bir analog kamera bazen hayatın kırılma noktasını belirler. Bu da öyle bir an.
Painter and photographer Gökçe talked about the last two years he moved to Berlin. The art industry, which is shrinking as a result of the depressions of the artists who migrated from Turkey and the budget cuts in Berlin, is also felt in its own city, Istanbul. Competitions entrusted to the brush of a few people, monopolizing galleries and young artists who can't find a place for themselves... Yet a teacher, an approved visa, an analog camera coming out of the drawer sometimes determine the breaking point of life. This is such a moment.
